New Jacobean Country House, Lancashire

Site Sensitivities: Countryside / National Landscape

Planning approval was granted in early 2014 for a large new country house in the Lancashire countryside. The new family home was constructed in the Jacobean style over four levels and replaced a dated chalet style bungalow, kennels and cattery.

Set within two hectares of landscaped gardens, the house includes a series of formal and private reception rooms, large bedroom suites as well as a basement leisure complex incorporating a swimming pool, gym and cinema.

The building was constructed with reclaimed walling and roofing stone complimented with new ashlar stone window surrounds and quoin stones The windows are a Bronze frame system that have a traditional form but are thermally broken and double glazed which along with a thermally broken detail to the stone surrounds and cavity walling means the home provides a traditional aesthetic with the benefits of current thermal insulation levels. The house is heated by a biomass boiler and the internal environment is maintained with a Mechanical Ventilation and Heat Recovery system.

Innovative detailing allows these traditional features such as the stone mullioned windows and a cantilevered stone staircase to function within a well-insulated, modern envelope.

Status: Completed 2019
