Lingholm - Kitchen
Site Sensitivities: UNESCO World Heritage Site / National Park / SSSI / Listed Building
The Lingholm Estate has long been a holiday destination but our client also wanted to open part of the estate to the public. This has been achieved by reinstating the historic gardens and creating a new café building on the site of the previous tea room that opened in 1984 and closed in 1994.
The café sits on an access route from a new launch jetty specific to Lingholm and at the other side of the estate joins the Catbells route and Cumbrian Way. The design references the previous café building and the style of buildings on the estate, large areas of glazing to the north overlook the reinstated walled garden and a roof light runs the entire length of the roof, this lights the interior and connects the inside and outside. It was well received as a modern vernacular design by the Lake District National Park Authority. The cafe opened as Lingholm Kitchen on the 2nd of July 2016.
