Ian worked for many years at the well-respected practice of Carden & Godfrey, specialising in conservation, new buildings on sensitive sites, sympathetic alterations, extensions, interiors and gardens in an historic context. He has worked at Tonbridge School and on phased refurbishment at Brasenose College Oxford, several projects at Osterley Park for the National Trust and renovations of Crown Estate houses around Regent's Park. He spent years detailing repairs at Beverley Minster, and on working drawings for award-winning extensions to parish churches at West Chiltington, Sussex and Headington, Oxon. Most of his recent work is on the repair of the setting of listed buildings including the recently completed conservation of, and garden design for, Balls Park, Hertford, a Grade 1 Carolean mansion.
